“Open access to public records and empowering citizens with knowledge are core tenets of a
healthy democracy,” stated Bonnie Miller, President of LWVAR. “We applaud Arkansas Citizens
for Transparency for their unwavering commitment to ensuring these principles are upheld in
Arkansas.”

The coalition seeks to:
● Enshrine the right to transparency in the state constitution. This would provide a stronger
foundation for open government and make it harder for future legislatures to weaken
transparency laws.
● Establish penalties for violations of transparency laws. This would deter officials from
withholding information and provide recourse for citizens who are denied access to
public records.

“We are impressed by the diverse group of individuals involved in this initiative, showcasing the
power of grassroots activism and the unifying nature of the desire for a more transparent
government,” commented Miller. “Their work serves as an inspiration for all Arkansans who
believe in the fundamental principles of democracy.”

The League of Women Voters of Arkansas encourages all Arkansans to learn more about
