Did You Know It’s World Autism Day?
April 2 is World Autism Awareness Day. Although the cause of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) can’t always be known, genetics, biology and environment are all important contributing factors. Autistic people often experience persistent challenges with communication and social interactions. While signs of autism usually appear by age 2 or 3, common signs for all autistic people can include:
-Avoidance of eye contact
-Persistent preference for solitude
-Difficulty understanding other people’s feelings
-Delayed language development
-Persistent repetition of words or phrases
Learning about autism can give autistic individuals a sense of belonging. Find ways you can support the autism community.
