After three days of bids, fast-talking auctioneers and fun in the Fair Parks Coliseum, the Hope Lions Club has announced its total proceeds from its 73rd Christmas Auction: $39,185.50, which is $1,150 more than last year's haul.

The announcement came at a banquet held last night at UAHT's Hempstead Hall where local singer Shelley Keith and her husband Mark provided the musical entertainment.

Auction chair Milko Smith said, "I want to thank all of our members for all their hard work and dedication, and I thank all of the public that came out and bid on items. Thanks also to the Evening Lions for preparing food for us."

Lions President Charles Looney said, "We want to thank everyone for coming out and bidding quickly and honestly. I thank the vendors for everything. We raised more money for the needy people in our community. And we're really really proud to be here in Hope."
