Local florists, bakers busy but still welcoming Valentine's shoppers as Tuesday looms

The various businesses in Hope and Prescott that supply Valentine’s Day floral arrangements, gifts and food items have been filling orders on what they readily say is one of their busiest weeks of the year. While the time to order the more elaborate pieces has passed, they still welcome walk-in customers. Photos from each business are placed below the descriptions of what they currently offer.

Hope Floral and Gifts. 501 South Main in Hope. 1-870-777-6667. Open 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday.  Kay McCorkle, who with husband Wendel and daughter Bitsy Carter, have run the business for 20 years, showed a large chalkboard with particular arrangements for Valentine’s Day with names like Love Story, Grand Romance, and Everlasting Love. They do a brisk business in roses, snack packs, stuffed animals and other gifts. Their usual staff of four or five swells to 15 to fulfill this week’s orders, and procrastinators should still find good selections even on Valentine’s Day itself.

The Picket Fence. 200 East Second in Hope. 1-870-722-5967. Open 10:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Mon-Friday, 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Saturday. Casey and Elena Smillie have many years’ experience serving Hempstead and Nevada counties.  This is Elena Smillie’s 38th Valentine’s week in the floral industry. Fresh flowers, dipped strawberries, cupcakes, cookies and many sweet treats number among Picket Fence’s offerings. "We have been working for weeks preparing gift baskets for all of the special people in your life," Elena Smillie said.  The Picket Fence also has specialty packs for sports, including school mascots and plush packs with hundreds to choose from.  They also have adult gift sets. Two Crumbs. Inside Martin’s. 914 North Hervey Street in Hope. 1-870-777-1777. Open 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Two Crumbs is a lunch bistro inside Martin’s run by Tara Fleming and Melina Adams. Among their offerings for this week are Heartbreaker Cakes, which come with a small hammer to crack the chocolate exteriors. They can come with four truffles or four strawberries. Also available are cake truffles, vanilla and strawberry and slices of Valentine’s themed cakes.

Little Tea Pot. Inside HeBrews 11:1 121 South Main in Hope. 1-870-331-0091. Open 8:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. Kindalyn Williams, in her third year running Little Tea Pot, is sending Valentine’s Day-themed delectables to be displayed to the left of the cash register stand at HeBrews 11:1 Coffee Shop.  Among the items offered is a charcuterie board for $15 plus tax, and strawberries starting at $10 plus tax and up, also slices of cake.

Prescott Floral and Bakery. 228 East Vine State in Prescott. 1-870-887-3111. Open 8:00 a..m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Saturday. According to salesperson Sydney Haynes, customers have made a lot of orders at Prescott Floral and Bakery this Valentine’s season, “and we’re very grateful for them.” Floral arrangements, snack packs, and a variety of take-home baked goods are available.

Charlotte Rose. 1110 West First Street North in Prescott. 1-870-602-1558. Open 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Saturday.  While half the store has been converted to a work room to accommodate the various Valentine’s Day baskets that have been ordered, many items, including flower arrangements, snack packs and stuffed items are still on display. Owner Angie Wren said, “We do anything from roses to mixed arrangements. We do traditional we do more stylized pieces. snack packs, we do anything from cups to bags, all kinds of different sizes, ranging from $12 up. We do deliver to Hope, Prescott area, Nevada, Blevins Spring Hill and Gurdon.”

Effie’s Flowers. 111 West Elm in Prescott. 1-870-887-3474. Open 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Saturday. Upon our visit, owner Erin Beard listed the items her shop stocks this Valentine’s season: “Snack packs with candy. I have balloons, lots of stuffed animals, candle baskets, bath and body baskets, gift baskets, flowers and my roses, roses, roses, roses, roses, house plants, willow tree angels and wind chimes.”
