Local Runner Gets “The Call”

Jose Alvarez, a Hope High School graduate and a twelve year employee of Red River Pecan Plantation, is suddenly a prominent figure in SW Arkansas.  Jose is not an avid runner….he is an ardent runner.

Jose lives in Fulton with his wife and three children.  He describes his high school cross-country track experience as being  quite unremarkable, except that a coach fueled his love of distance running.  Now, Jose is classed as an “ultra runner,” meaning he runs distances longer than twenty-six miles!

A humble, but compassionate guy, Jose saw that ultra runners often make their runs a fundraiser for local charitable causes.  Because of his love for kids, Jose surveyed the Hope area and decided to make a historic run for “The Call in Hempstead/Nevada Counties,” a local affiliate of “The Call in Arkansas.”

The Call is a faith-based, statewide organization whose mission is the recruitment, training, and support of foster and adoptive families.  Fully approved by the Arkansas Department of Children and  Family Services, The Call assists DCFS to provide safe, supportive, home environments for the 8,000 children that are removed from their homes..

Beginning at 8:00 p.m. on October 16 and ending at 8:00 p.m. the next day, Jose intends to run 100 miles over the course of 24 hours!  You can watch the run livestream at www.facebook.com/jose.alvarez.94617

All donations and sponsorships are being directed to The Call in Hempstead/Nevada Counties.  To make a tax-deductible donation, or for further information, call 501-607-8035 or go to www.facebook.com/TheCALLHempstead.
