Logan Jolly mile career best topples meet record at Arkansas Qualifier

Fayetteville – Logan Jolly led a 1-2-3 Razorback sweep in the mile during the Arkansas Qualifier on Friday and broke the meet record with her career best of 4 minutes, 35.26 seconds inside the Randal Tyson Track Center.

The effort from Jolly bettered the meet record of 4:38.35 set in 2018 by former Razorback Therese Haiss. Jolly improved her previous best of 4:39.01 and just missed the UA all-time top 10, where Haiss has the 10th position with a 4:34.54 from 2017. Finishing behind Jolly in the mile were Razorbacks Isabel Van Camp (4:41.79) and Krissy Gear (4:42.30).

“The Arkansas Qualifier, I think, worked for us in many respects,” noted Arkansas women’s head coach Lance Harter. “If anything, it gives us better seeding marks in preparation for the SEC meet.

“Logan had huge PR at 4:35 in the mile. That’s a big step in the right direction for her. We also had improvements in the 60m hurdles and 200m, which were great to see.”

In the 60m hurdles fast times were registered in the prelims and continued into the finals. The meet record of 8.13 set by Razorback Ivanique Kemp in 2012 was toppled twice in the prelims by USC’s Mecca McGlaston (8.09) and British Olympian Cindy Sember (8.07).

Daszay Freeman had the third best prelim time at 8.10 while Yoveinny Mota equaled her career best at 8.13.

Sember set another meet record with her 7.96 final victory ahead of a 7.98 by Jasmine Jones of USC while McGlaston finished third in 7.99. Freeman lowered her season best to 8.05 in fourth while Mota improved her Venezuelan national record to 8.12 in finishing fifth and is No. 6 on the UA all-time list.

A pair of career best times were registered in the 200m by Jada Baylark and Joanne Reid. Baylark clocked 23.06 to place third and is equal No. 6 on the UA all-time list. Reid improved to 23.32, and is currently No. 11 on the UA all-time list. Ohio State’s Anavia Battle won the event in a meet record of 22.49.

Kennedy Thomson won the 800m in 2:08.16 while Carmie Prinsloo posted a 2:10.26 in her indoor debut as this distance. Paris Peoples (52.88) and Ashanti Denton (53.73 PR) were fourth and sixth in the 400m.

Alexis Torns finished fourth in the triple jump with a career best mark of 41-0.25 (12.50), improving her No. 8 position on the UA all-time list. Jamaican Olympian Kimberly Williams broke her own meet record with a 46-11 (14.30) victory, improving her previous mark of 46-10.25 (14.28) set in 2012.

Amanda Fassold, a Razorback vaulter who is redshirting this indoor season, set a pair of career best heights in placing second with a clearance of 14-5.5 (4.41) and then had three attempts at 14-9.5 (4.51) after passing 14-7.5 (4.46).

Lyndsey Reed of Ole Miss also cleared 14-5.5 and won the event based on fewer attempts at that height. Razorback Bailee McCorkle was third at 13-9.75 (4.21) while Mackenzie Hayward (13-9.75) and Grace Ridgeway (13-5.75 | 4.11) finished fifth and sixth.

“Just seeing 14-9.5 on the board it was so fun to even get a shot at it,” stated Fassold, who bettered her previous indoor best of 14-2.5 (4.33) with a clearance of 14-3.5 (4.36) after opening the competition at 12-2 (3.71). “I was just so excited, and I’m ready to get some more shots at it and see what we can do. I so excited to start reppin’ a Hog on my chest and be a Razorback. That’s what I came her for.

“I came in at 12-2, which was a pretty low bar today. Coach Compton was just ready to see what I could do at that higher bar. I gave it a shot, and it was fun. I was happy he did that, so I can get a shot it.”
