FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas will kick off the SEC/ACC Challenge at Miami on Tuesday (Dec. 3). The game is one of 10 in the Challenge being played Tuesday and one of four to start at 6 pm (CT). The Razorback-Hurricane game will be televised on ESPN2.

Last year, Arkansas defeated #7 Duke, 80-75, in Bud Walton Arena for the inaugural SEC/ACC Challenge. The game was the largest crowd in Bud Walton Arena history (20,344) and was played on the 30th anniversary of the first game played in the facility, Arkansas got a double-double from Trevon Brazile to win. Brazile made a career-high four 3-pointers, including a key triple with 2:16 left to put the Hogs up 12, and finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds for his third double-double of the season and third over his last four games.

For the second year in a row, John Calipari will square off versus Miami in the SEC/ACC Challenge. Last year, Coach Cal led then #12 Kentucky to a 95-73 over then #8 Miami, 95-73, in Rupp Arena. Adou Thiero had nine points (4-of-5 FG) and six rebounds in 28 minutes. D.J. Wagner started and had five points in 10 minutes before exiting the game in the first half with an ankle injury.

Arkansas will return home to host UTSA on Saturday (Dec. 7) at Bud Walton Arena. Game time is set for 1 pm (CT) and will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus.

NOTES:

• Arkansas and Miami have only met on one previous occasion. Miami won, 75-71. It was the first round of the 2000 NCAA Championship and the game was played in Nashville’s Gaylord Entertainment Center (now called Bridgestone Arena). For most of the game, Miami was coasting against Arkansas with a double-digit lead. Then, in the final 60 seconds, it almost evaporated. Arkansas went on a 10-0 run to close within three before the Hurricanes put the game away and advanced to the second round. Johnny Hemsley led UM with 20 points. John Salmons added 16 points. Teddy Gipson led the Hogs with 14 points while Joe Johnson had 13 points and five rebounds.

• Razorback head coach John Calipari is 1-1 all-time versus the Hurricanes. Both of the previous meetings came while he was at Kentucky and they were both played in Rupp Arena. He lost the first meeting, 73-67, in his first year at UK (Dec. 6, 2008). He won the second meeting, 95-73, in last year’s SEC/ACC Challenge.

• Adou Thiero has at least one steal in all seven games and 20 for the season. Thiero ranks 11th in the NCAA / 1st in the NCAA in steals (2.86 avg). In a 3-game span, had 14 with a then career-high 4 vs Pacific, a career-high 6 steals vs Little Rock and 4 vs UMES. He additionally ranks 2nd in the SEC in FG% (.632) and 3rd in the SEC in scoring (19.1).
