MBB Preview: Arkansas vs Samford
FAYETTEVILLE – The #21 Arkansas men’s basketball program returns to Bud Walton Arena on Friday (Nov. 14) by hosting Samford. Tipoff is set for 7 pm (CT), and the game will be broadcast on SEC Network Plus.

Did you know?

• Darius Acuff Jr. and Meleek Thomas are two of only 19 freshmen who have scored at least 50 points in their first three games.

• Among the nation’s freshmen, Arkansas is the only school to have two players among the top 15 in total points. In fact, they are 2 of 12 rookies to score at least 50 points in just three games so far (two players have scored 50-plus but have played more than three games).

• Acuff ranks fourth among NCAA freshmen in total points (59) and Thomas is tied for 13th (54).

NOTES:

• Arkansas and Samford have met on three previous occasions, with the Razorbacks winning all three. Two of the meetings were played in Fayetteville and one in Pine Bluff.

• The last time they met (Nov. 10, 2017), Arkansas had six players score in double figures as the Razorbacks cruised to a 95-56 victory over Samford in Bud Walton Arena. Jaylen Barford and Daryl Macon led the way with 16 points each. Samford’s high scorer was Alex Thompson with 10 points.

• While Arkansas has not played Samford since 2017, the Razorbacks are familiar with the Bulldogs’ first-year head coach Lennie Acuff. Acuff brought his Lipscomb teams to face Arkansas in each of the last two years. Arkansas defeated Lipscomb 76-60 in last season in Cal’s debut as the Head Hog. The previous year, Arkansas defeated Lipscomb 69-66 in North Little Rock.

• With Arkansas’s win over UCA on Tuesday, Razorback head coach John Calipari recorded his 879th career win as an NCAA Division I coach, tying Dean Smith for sixth all-time. Coach Cal is 21 wins from reaching 900 wins as an NCAA Division I coach. Currently, only four coaches have at least 900 wins as an NCAA Division I head coach. St. John’s Rick Pitino (887 wins) and Coach Cal (879) are on pace to reach the milestone this season..
