FAYETTEVILLE - Twin brothers/ basketball center-forwards Makhel Mitchell and Makhi Mitchell are transferring as juniors via the transfer portal from the University of Rhode Island and have signed with the University of Arkansas, Razorbacks Coach Eric Musselman announced Wednesday.

The brothers ranked 1-2 in scoring, rebounding and blocked shots for Rhode Island for the 2021-2022 season.

Makhel Mitchell, 6-10, 245 averaged 10.7 points, 5.6 rebounds and blocked 74 shots.

Makhi Mitchell, 6-9, 230 transferring as a sophomore, averaged 9.9 points, 7.3 rebounds and blocked 43 shots.

The brothers began their collegiate careers at Maryland and transferred after one semester to Rhode Island lettering with the Rams the last two seasons.

Arkansas, previously through the transfer portal, signed 6-9 sophomore forward Trevon Brazile from the University of Missouri.

The Hogs signed incoming freshmen Jordan Walsh, of Branson, Mo. and Nick Smith of North Little Rock, both McDonald’s All-Americans, and ESPN top 100 recruits Joseph Pinion of Morrilton Derrian Ford of Magnolia and Barry Dunning of Mobile, Ala. during the autumn early signing period and have received a commitment from McDonald’s All-American Anthony Black to sign when this month’s spring signing period begins.

Two Razorbacks underclassmen, junior to be Khalen KK Robinson and sophomore to be Chance Moore, have submitted their names to the transfer portal.

All-American guard JD Notate and defensive stalwart guard Au’Diese Toney, two Razorbacks seniors who had 2020-2021 covid granted option to return as 2022-2023 bonus seniors, have said they are turning professional.

Junior-to-be center Jaylin Williams is exploring pro options seeking feedback from NBA scouts but has not signed with an agent and thus still eligible to return to the Razorbacks with a June 1 NBA deadline to decide.
