Morrilton Hands Nevada First Loss of Season 73-61
Prescott- The Nevada Blue Jays hosted the 4A State Runner-Up Morrilton Devil Dogs on Monday night in Prescott in a non-conference game. The Devil Dogs will be a contender once again for a 4A title, as they have a lot of experience back from last season, including UCA commit Isaiah Templeton. That did not stop the Blue Jays from getting after it from the opening tip to the final buzzer, as they kept coming, answering a Morrilton run with a run of their own. "Overall happy with the effort we showed, execution was good, we missed some shots that we normally make but credit that to Morrilton, they're a really good defensive team, they got after us but we did a good job adjusting tonight throughout the game," Coach Eddie Beck said after the game.

Morrilton led 16-12 after the opening quarter and took a 8-point lead into the half, but Nevada would cut that down to a one possession game in the third. Morrilton answered that with a good run as Tre Hammons and Templeton combined for 14 in the 3rd quarter. Blue Jays guard Keyonte Wingfield poured in 14 of his 21 points in the 2nd half to keep Nevada right there, but free throws late and some big buckets for Morrilton in the 4th led to the 12-point 73-61 win.

Wingfield led the Jays with 21 points, as he consistently made plays for Nevada. Coach Beck spoke on his guard after the game, "He rose to the challenge of the size and athleticism Morrilton's guards have, but thats Keyonte, we know when we need him to step up he is going to step up." Sophomore Monti Mixon scored 15 points and had multiple offensive put-backs. "Monti did a great job tonight on both ends of the floor, being asked to guard the Templeton kid, he had a great game on the glass as well and the effort was spectacular," Coach Eddie Beck said about Mixon after the game. Kobe Hughey scored 9 points, with Taco Roberson and Tre King each scoring 6. Rico Aparicio scored 4 points.

Kielyn Bunting scored a game-high 23 points for the Devil Dogs. Ty Wright had 16 and Hammons finished with 15.

Nevada is back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Bismarck to face Dumas at 3:30.
