Henderson State University’s Department of Music will present its annual President’s Recital Feb. 13 at 7:30 p.m. For the safety of the performers and the audience, due to COVID-19, the virtual concert will be streamed live on the music department’s Facebook page, facebook.com/hendersonmusic.

The program features student soloists who were selected as winners of a competition held in November.

“For 20 years, this concert has provided some of our best students with the opportunity to perform solo works accompanied by an orchestra, including members of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra,” said Dr. Steven Becraft, competition coordinator. “This year, due to the pandemic, we have to do things a little differently and follow a scaled-down recital format.”

Cassie Ford, a soprano from Hot Springs, will perform “V’adoro pupille” from Handel’s Giulio Cesare; Luke Fields, a saxophonist from New Boston, Texas, will perform Debussy’s Rapsodie; Wesley Gangluff, a euphoniumist from Bryant, will perform James Curnow’s Symphonic Variants; Reece Ruhl, a tenor from Paragould, will perform “En fermant les yeux” from Massenet’s Manon; Adrian Hernandez, a saxophonist from De Queen, will perform Milhaud’s Scaramouche; and Fisher Neufeld, a pianist from Mena, will perform the last movement of Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 3 in C minor.
