The most severe drought in Arkansas is in the northwestern counties of Benton and Carroll. Drought conditions there are designated "Extreme." But dry conditions short of extreme have impacted most of the southwestern two-thirds of the state.
Hempstead County has been in a burn ban since Monday October 7th.
The U.S. Drought Monitor is produced through a partnership between the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the United States Department of Agriculture and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
