The Prescott Nevada County Chamber of Commerce hosted a community coffee this morning for the Nevada County Depot & Museum to showcase the new flooring and other changes that have been implemented in the remodel.

Tasty snacks and refreshing drinks were served as citizens browsed throughout the building checking out artifacts, Civil Warmemorabilia and visiting about all the wonderful new changes that have been made in the revamp over the past several months.

The museum suffered a leak that caused 750 gallons of water to pour throughout the building. The floor had eight inch chunks missing out of it so they had to pull the carpet up, only to find black mold underneath. They had everything leveled and decided upon the wood fleck epoxy to mimic the flooring in the archives room. The work was done by Mendoza Flooring.

During the remodel, none of the exhibits could be removed so they had to do it in three sections which took longer than expected but worth it, the floor is absolutely beautiful. Other changes that have been made in this process are a kid's room where they can host fun activities for local youths like Pioneer Days, Student Depot Days, Caboose Tours, Genealogy Research and Love Language projects.

"My goal for this is to become a visitors center, a rest area stop for people traveling through Prescott. Ninety percent of visitors stop here and have no clue what this place is but I offer them a cup of coffee, they have a look around and say, wow this is really neat then they may go on to have a bite to eat in town or visit Prairie' D'Ane so that's what I want to see more of, travelers stopping in and also having more of our locals come in for the added activities we have in the works," Curator Heather Shelman said.

She went on to talk about plans for the future; leveling the caboose and parking lot, painting the interior walls, updating the handicap walkway and so much more. If you would like to help with these projects, the museum is accepting donations that can be sent to P.O. Box 592, Prescott, AR 71857.

Executive Director of the Prescott Nevada County Chamber of Commerce, Jamie Hillery was excited about the changes and spoke of a job well done. "Curator, Heather Shelman along with other Depot Board Members have done a wonderful job on the new floors, cleaning and organizing the Nevada County Depot & Museum. The space is very welcoming to visitors. I hope if you haven’t already or haven’t recently visited the museum you will stop in and see all of the exhibits the museum."

The Nevada County Depot is very unique and holds memorabilia from the Civil War such as photographs, ammunition and personal artifacts. The Museum also contains a variety of books on the subject and replicas of Union and Confederate uniforms. It is a must stop when traveling through Nevada County.
