Kavion Coleman started the game on fire as he poured in 13 points in the opening quarter. Dermott would outscore Nevada in the second quarter as the Blue Jays were a little careless with the basketball late in the second quarter, as Nevada would take a 39-35 lead into the half.
I told Coach Jamario Bell he must have made some "Muss-Like" adjustments in the locker room as the Blue Jays came out and and dominated the third quarter and started to pull away. "The last four minutes of the first half and the first four minutes of the second half were huge for us. That can really make or break the game," Bell said.
Nevada won the third quarter 23-15, in big part due to the play of Brycten Harris who exploded for 13 points in the third, and Cardi Adair made some huge plays in the paint for the Jays when they were searching for a spark. Nevada would go on to outscore Dermott 24-18 in the final quarter to win the game 86-68.
"Three and 0 in conference sounds good and feels good. Dermott is a tough team, but we did a good job of running when we needed to run to really extend our lead late," Bell said after the game. Dermott is a very athletic and physical team and they will likely be around at the end of the regional tournament as well.
Senior Guard Brycten Harris said after the game, "We had to adapt after the first half. We came out after the half and played through the physicality and got through it." Brycten Harris and Kavion Coleman led the Jays with 22 points each. Harris would add 4 assists and Coleman had 6 rebounds. Keyonte Wingfield had a great game with 14 points, 12 assists, and 7 rebounds, as he did a great job getting his teammates involved by driving and kicking out to open shooters.
Kobe Hughey and Cardi Adair each had 10 points as the Blue Jays had five players in double figures. Hughey played very aggressive and added 9 rebounds. Nevada heads to Nashville this Monday to take on the Scrappers.
