Quite a crowd turned out this morning for a ribbon cutting ceremony celebrating the opening of New 4 You in Emmet. Proprietors Johnnie and Pam Dougan provided guests a warm welcome and tasty treats, as well as the opportunity to browse the various items on display. New 4 You will provide locals with flea-market style shopping of items from estate sales and auctions, a space for fellow citizens to hold their own estate sales and/or garage sales, plus Johnny’s computer repair business.
Chamber Director Jamie Hillery kicked off events by introducing the couple and thanking them for opening their business in Nevada County. Johnnie joked with the crowd about the couple starting a new business in their seventies (to which Pam replied, "Who's in their seventies?") and shared with guests how this new venture came to be.
After the passing of the late Lou Barksdale, the Dougans needed a place to hold an estate sale that had plenty of space and sufficient parking. So they rented the Gas-Lite Bowl building for the estate sale and Johnnie said "it just began snowballing" when people asked to put their own items out to sell as well. Hence, New 4 You was created. Johnnie called it a community re-sale place for people to have garage sales and hopefully once a month have a community center. In a turn of serendipity, this building is also the location of Johnnie's very first job, working at the bowling alley. "We're happy to be here," he said.
Pam is also the owner/proprietor of Sew Fine in Prescott, and she shared with SWARK.Today her delight in starting this new venture. "I love to come out here and visit with people," she said. "My husband graduated from Emmet, so to come back and help with re-vitalization in Emmet and work with EVA (Emmet Vision Association) is exciting."
The Dougans said they welcome people to not only come shop or use the space for estate or garage sales, but also to set up a booth (if space allows) to sell their own items.
