A lunchtime traffic scrape sent one woman to the hospital to be checked out and came close to installing a drive-thru lane at Sonic in Hope Monday afternoon.
According to accounts of those on scene, at around 1 p.m., a woman traveling south on Hervey near Sonic attempted to avoid a northbound Dodge Dakota when the driver of the Dakota reportedly attempted to make a left turn in front of her. Witnesses told police that the driver of the Dakota was waved in by the driver of a southbound vehicle that was stopped waiting on traffic to move. The driver of the Dakota turned left to find a maroon Chevrolet Uplander still moving in the outside, southbound lane. The collision between the Dakota and the Uplander was minor but the driver of the Uplander veered off the road and crashed into a Sonic kiosk and the pole it was mounted on. The impact caused significant damage to the van, which came to a stop with the kiosk through its windshield and its bumper wrapped around the pole. Sonic's manager told police they estimated the damage at around $8000-$10,000.
Hope Police, Hope Fire and Pafford EMS were dispatched to the crash.
The driver of the van was able to get out and walk on her own but opted to be taken to the ER at Wadley Regional Medical Center in Hope to be checked out.
