Tons of local citizens, students, city and school officials came out to show their support of the program. While visiting amongst the crowd, attendees feasted on farm to table freshness. Sausage biscuits, sausage balls, and summer sausage grown by the youth of OYEA was a tasty delight. The students not only had their product there to sample but also order forms for meats for sale.
Board President of OYEA, Fred Harris said, "This community coffee is to represent the OYEA group, Organization for Youth, Education, and Agriculture. We're a nonprofit 501-C3 corporation that exists to support the Prescott High School Agri program. We have animals, we have cows, goats, pigs, and rabbits. The children's raise the animals and show them all during the show season for the show animals. So so it's been a real successful program. We started from zero and now we just got through having our crop of hogs and we've got 35. Next week, the students will pick their hog out that they'll show and be responsible for raising until September or October. We’re glad to be a part of the community. We do all of our fundraising locally, we have an annual banquet that raises the majority of our funds, and we like to invite everyone to our annual banquet in November.”
Many of the locals and board members spoke highly of and credited Superintendent Robert Poole for helping the OYEA program continue to grow.
Executive Director of the Nevada Prescott Chamber of Commerce, Jamie Hillery said, “This is such an amazing program for our school and community. I am proud to watch how it has grown over the past few years.”
