The Prescott/Nevada County Library was filled with members of the community this morning as locals gathered to attend the Community Coffee hosted by the Prescott Rotary Club. With plenty of tasty treats and blue and gold decorations honoring Rotary, including a Rotary-themed cake, guests had a lively atmosphere in which to visit with other citizens in attendance.

What took center stage, though, was the message presented by the current Rotary President, Boe Young, and soon-to-be Rotary President, Elaine Williams. Young introduced Williams and shared heartfelt appreciation with the community for their support in past Rotary activities. She said Williams will give some fresh ideas to Rotary and upcoming projects. Williams then shared her excitement for this next year and said the organization was going to "paint the town with Rotary." Williams said, "We want to spread Rotary’s name. We want to live what we say we are, service above self, and give to our community as much as we can." She said the organization plans to have two to three projects each month to continue the endeavor of serving the community.

Young also took a moment to honor Billie McCain, former club secretary for 15 years who was also the first female Rotarian to ever join the organization. She invited anyone who was interested to attend one of their meetings which are held on the first and third Tuesday at noon at Curry’s Community Outreach Ministry.

Williams shared with SWARK.Today that she thought this upcoming year was going to be a success and that the support from the community has been wonderful. A look around the room was proof of that. With the mayor, city council members, chamber members, courthouse staff, EDO members, and citizens from all areas of Prescott and Nevada County present and enjoying the event together, the sense of community was evident. Rotary's motto "service above self" was in full bloom this morning, as well as the impact the citizens of Prescott and Nevada County have when they come together for a worthy cause.
