Peter Pan and Wendy (with Tinkerbell, Peter's shadow and Captain Hook) soar across Hempstead Hall

Hempstead Hall Fairytales On Ice Peter & Wendy's Adventures
Peter Pan and Wendy (with Tinkerbell, Peter's shadow and Captain Hook) soar across Hempstead Hall
The Fairytales on Ice production of Peter & Wendy's Adventures was a visually exciting, multi-setting marvel.  The dozens of children, parents and grandparents, aunts and uncles who came out Friday  night to Hempstead Hall saw a gliding, whirling enactment of the story of Peter Pan and Tinkerbell rescuing little Wendy from a confining New York apartment (which she flies around in first) to their own native Neverland, where she meets a gaggle of immortal Lost Kids, learns to swim (and breathe) underwater and gets into some trouble with a certain Captain Hook.

So often I wanted to be in the heads of the girls and boys around me, because the whirling of the ice skaters, the playing of the jugglers, the choreography, the scenery, the projected backdrops, the fog, the costumery would have been even more overwhelming. But still, having enjoyed last year's production by the same touring crew of Beauty and the Beast, I knew to expect a dazzling triumph of skating mastery, clever dialogue and lyrics and majestic imagery. If anything, this show exceeded last year's.

It all ended with a song dedicated to letting our imagination fly, the way Peter Pan and Tinkerbell did with Wendy. With the assistance of the Fairytales on Ice skaters, this did not take much effort for the kids of all ages in Hempstead Hall Friday night.
