FAYETTEVILLE -- Bobby Petrino was on the SEC Teleconference on Wednesday and talked about a variety of topics including the health of quarterback Taylen Green and others.
On the last play from scrimmage for the Hogs, Green was tackled by the neck and had to be helped off the field though he was walking. In addition Petrino was asked about edge Charlie Collins and defensive back Jordan Young who were also injured against the Bulldogs?
"Taylen practiced last night. Did a good job. He’s feeling good. He still has to do a good job this week of being in the training room and getting treatment and getting back to 100% but I’m very encouraged that he will, much more than I was after the game. Charlie Collins has some work to do. He won’t practice this week but we do have an outside chance of having him available and ready to go next week.
"Who was the other? Jordan is also a guy that we have some rehab to get done and do this week but we are encouraged that we’ll have him available next week also."
In addition starting center Caden Kitler and right tackle E'Marion Harris completely missed the last game. Harris' backup, Shaq McRoy, also went down early in the game and didn't return.
"We've got a chance to have them back for next week's game," Petrino said. "They were out there in the limited capacity last night, but did get to practice and get some work in. Hopefully tonight, they'll get more reps in and more work in and just progress and be ready to go next week."
Arkansas has lost seven games this season and five of them have been by one score (8 points or fewer) and another was a nine-point loss. Petrino was asked about all the one-loss games?
"Yeah, I mean that’s a pretty loaded question," Petrino said. "This season we’ve been right there and haven’t been able to get it done in the fourth quarter, been able to make the plays under pressure in all three phases. It’s hurt us with our ability to win in the fourth quarter. That’s when you’ve got to be able to make those plays."
This is the second and last bye week for Arkansas this season. They will go to LSU (Nov. 15), Texas (Nov. 22) and then finish up at home against Missouri (Nov. 29).
"Well, we're on a bye week, and we went out last night, had a good practice," Petrino said. "We are using the bye week to work on getting everybody back healthy and feeling full speed and ready to go a week from Saturday. We also use a bye week to make sure you're where you need to be academically, and get everything set and ready to go for the last three-week run. So I think our players have done a nice job of it."
How is this week different than the first other than all the coaching changes following the loss to Notre Dame?
"Ah, just a little bit different as far as what we're doing in physical contact," Petrino said. "The physical contact, we felt like that was something that we had to get to and work on and getting better. We're using this one a little bit different as far as trying to get guys healthy and and get the little bumps and bruises healed up and be ready to go full speed and normal practice on Sunday night and next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday."
Arkansas and LSU will kickoff at 11:45 a.m. in Baton Rouge on Nov. 15. The game will be televised on the SEC Network.
