FAYETTEVILLE -- Former Morrilton standout Joseph Pinion is set to return for his sophomore season at Arkansas.
Pinion, 6-5, 190, announced the decision on Twitter Tuesday.
"per source i will be returning" is what Pinion tweeted out.
As a true freshman, Pinion appeared in 24 games. He averaged 5.7 points, 0.6 rebound, 0.1 assist and 0.2 steal per game. He shot 44.7% from the field, 38.2% from behind the 3-point line and a 100% from the free throw line. Of his 21 field goals, 13 were from 3-point land.
He set two records. Most free throws in a season without a miss as well as the most minutes played without a turnover.
His best game came on Jan. 4 when he helped lead the Hogs to a 74-68 comeback win over Missouri. Led the team with +15 to help the Hogs erase a 17-point deficit. Pumped in a career-high 13 points, making 3-of-6 from 3-point range. Played a season-high 27:28.
As a senior at Morrilton, averaged 24.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.7 steals and 2.1 blocked shots while shooting 88% from the free throw line. He was a four-star recruit.
Pinion joins forwards Trevon Brazile and Jalen Graham in announcing his return. Davonte "Devo" Davis has announced for the 2023 NBA Draft, but didn't hire an attorney thus leaving him the option of returning this fall.
Nick Smith Jr. and Ricky Council IV have entered the draft and won't return. Kamani Johnson was out of eligibility and can't return.
That leaves Anthony Black, Barry Dunning Jr., Derrian Ford, Jordan Walsh and twins Makhi and Makhel Mitchell as still to make official announcements.
Arkansas has added two five-star recruits from the high school ranks and a transfer point guard from Washington.
