From the 2nd quarter on it was all Curley Wolves, as they won the next three quarters. Prescott would outscore Salem 10-8 in the 2nd quarter, as DeCari Prater would connect with Michael Brownlee on a 40-yard TD, as Brownlee created a lot of space against the defender and Prater dropped the ball in a bucket for the TD. Salem would answer with another TD on a 4-yard run from Aiden Province. With under 3:00 left in the first half, Prescott kicker Miguel Rivera split the uprights for a 30-yard FG to bring the score to 22-10 at the half.Â
DeCari Prater would put pull the Curley Wolves within 22-17 after his 4-yard TD run in the third quarter. A lot of good defense and physicality by both teams in the 4th quarter, kept the score at 22-17 until Coach Glass went in the playbook and found a perfect play call on a 4th & 2, and set Prater up for a walk-in GW TD with under 2 minutes to go in the game. Prater would find Jay Monk on the 2pt conversion to make the score 25-22 with 1:52 remaining in the game. The stingy Wolves defense would create a turnover and give Prescott the ball at the Salem 1-yd line and Mario Brownlee would rumble into the endzone and put the nail in the coffin for the Wolves as they would win the game 31-22. After the game Coach Glass spoke on the win, "We got a lot better as a football team tonight, Salem is a very good team and our guys made adjustments and we fought and came out on top."
The defense in the second half was lights out for the Curley Wolves as they continuously put Prescott in a great position to win the game. Prescott forced multiple turnovers, including 2 INTs, as KJ Page and Michael Brownlee each had an interception. Great game by the defense and great adjustments at the half by the coaching staff. "We made some good adjustments on the offensive side of the ball at the half and the defense played great," DeCari Prater said after the game as he spoke about the comeback win.Â
DeCari Prater had another good night under the lights, as he threw for 171 yards with 1 TD and an INT. Prater also led the team in rushing yards with 72 yards and 2 TDs. Michael Brownlee was a mismatch all game, as he had 52 yards receiving and a TD. Mario Brownlee had 28 yards rushing and a TD and KJ Page had 16 yards on the ground. Jay Monk and Spencer Hubbard each made big plays in the game that kept drives alive and set up scores for Prescott.Â
Prescott is entering the bye-week and will have their home-opener on Sep. 20 against Hope.Â
