Genoa- The Diamond Wolves took the field in Genoa this past weekend in the 3A South Regional Tournament. Prescott took care of business Thursday with a 14-8 comeback win over Drew Central to punch their ticket to the State Tourney in Lincoln. Coach McCauley was very pleased with how the team fought back and never lost confidence that the offense would eventually show up. The fight in this group of Wolves are going to make them a very tough team to beat in the State Tourney this coming weekend.
Prescott 14 Drew Central 8
In one of the more crazy/up-and-down games you will see all year, that saw a 3-1 game heading into the 5thinning turn into a 11-8 Prescott lead heading into the 6th. Pierce Yates took the mound for the Curley Wolves Thursday, after a rough first few batters Yates settled in and put up 3 consecutive shutout innings. Yates would finish with 9 strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work allowing 8 runs (5ER). Talan Smith would come in and do an excellent job getting out of a jam in the 5th inning and cruise through the final 2 innings with 3 strikeouts. The Wolves banged out 10 hits, including 3 huge hits from Marketric Mixon including a double, who also drove in 3 runs. Talan Smith would add a double and a single, and Avery Hubbard had 2 hits as well. Carston Poole had a great day at the plate with a single, 2RBI, and drew 2 walks. Branen Bradley had a double that flipped the game in favor of the Wolves and the team never looked back. Keegan Simmons had a big RBI single in the 5thinning. A great team win securing a trip to the State Tournament.
Prescott 8 Genoa Central 9 8 Innings
Genoa would take the lead early on as they jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the 2nd inning. Prescott would plate 1 run in the 3rd inning on a Branen Bradley single that scored Avery Hubbard. The game got interesting in the 4th inning as the Wolves scored 3 more to even the game at 4-4 on a 3-Run HR by Avery Hubbard. Genoa would take the lead back on a run in the 5th, only to have Prescott score 4 runs in the 6th to take an 8-5 lead on a Carston Poole double to CF as he drove in Caden Dice and Avery Hubbard. Poole would then score on a passed ball to make it 7-5 Prescott. Pierce Yates would then reach base on a walk and work his way around the bases to score on a ground ball by Branen Bradley. The Dragons would tie the game in the bottom half of the inning. In extras, the Dragons would hold Prescott scoreless and win the game on a passed ball to win the game. Avery Hubbard had a day at the plate for Prescott with 4 hits including a HR. Carston Poole added a double and a single, and Pierce Yates added 2 singles. Spencer Hubbard and Branen Bradley each had hits. With the loss Prescott would face Fouke next for 3rd place in the tourney.
Prescott 6 Fouke 11
Prescott would fall behind the Panthers early in their 3rd game of the weekend 6-1 headed into the bottom of the 5th inning. The Wolves would then explode for 4 runs on an RBI double from Talan Smith, Pierce Yates knocked in a run on a ground ball to the 2nd baseman, and Avery Hubbard drew a bases loaded walk, and Carston Poole scored on a wild pitch to get within 1 run of Fouke headed into the 6th inning. The game would stay in Foukes favor as they scored 2 runs in the 6th and added 3 more in the 7th to hand the Wolves the 11-6 loss. Talan Smith and Branen Bradley would each have 2 hits, including a double each to lead Prescott offensively. Caden Dice would add a single for Prescott. The Curley Wolves are slated to play in the State Tournament Thursday at 3PM in Lincoln against the Elks from Elkins.
