Prescott to Host Mansfield on Friday with a Trip to War Memorial on the Line
Prescott- And then there were four. Only four teams remain in Class 3A and the Curley Wolves (12-1) find themselves just one more home victory away against Mansfield (11-2) from heading to War Memorial Stadium for the opportunity to compete for a State Championship. The Mansfield Tigers will travel to Prescott after beating Centerpoint 57-23 in their lone playoff home game before hitting the road and knocking off Hoxie (14-13) and Salem (26-22) in back-to-back weeks. Since Mansfield is a 3-seed, the Curley Wolves were blessed with another home playoff game after taking care of business the first three weeks of the playoffs. Prescott knocked off Palestine-Wheatley 42-0, Fordyce 7-6, and beat Bismarck last week 42-13. “We’re super excited, really excited we get to stay home for this game,” Coach Brian Glass said as he spoke about the excitement around the locker room this week.

The Tigers will look to control the clock and attempt to move the ball on the ground as they run a flex-bone, double-slot. They have a good full-back Tyler Turnipseed who can be a handful once he gets going. “They have some good playmakers, so we’re going to have to come ready to play,” as Glass spoke on Mansfield. With an offense that is about 80% run, this Prescott defense will be tasked with being disciplined and completing their assignments. SWARK.Today Player of the Week DeCari Prater spoke on the defense Tuesday, “We’re ready and excited. They don’t throw the ball a lot, but when they do we’ll be ready. Our D-Line is the best in the state, so I know they’ll be ready Friday, we’re ready for the opportunity.” This Prescott defense has been great all season long, allowing over 20 points just one time all year. “Super proud of the defense, they’ve been playing hard all year, we have a really good group and they love it,” Coach Jason Patrick said as he spoke on the defense. The linebackers are a great unit, as they tackle very well, and they showcase a lot of speed. Talan Smith, Tayshawn Smith, KJ Page, and Jayden Purtle have been lights out this year. The D-Line of Jamarion Burton, Rocco Patrick, Rasheed Muhammed, and Marshawn Rafter set the tone for the defense upfront, and they have to be the most talented front-four in the state. Coach Taylor Wood gets fired up on Friday nights on the sideline regularly, so I asked what fires him up the most about the defense, “The D-line, all the senior lineman, you don’t see groups with this size and speed come through, they ask all the right questions and they get after it, they’re doing things right at the right time.” The “No Fly Zone”, secondary of the Curley Wolves has made plays all season long, including a DeCari Prater pick-six this past week against Bismarck. “We have a great group back there, Prater and Lavonte Gleason do a great job getting us in the right coverage, and this group of Prater, Gleason, JK Jones, Richard Benton, and Jaquan Dickerson all do a great job covering and tackling, and they’re fast,” as Coach Patrick spoke on the secondary. Opposing teams have only managed to score 2 TDs against the Prescott defense this postseason, and this hungry pack of Wolves will look to continue their dominance this Friday against Mansfield.

Offensively, Prescott has been great all season as far as putting points on the board. This past week the offensive line had a great performance as the Curley Wolves had Jah’Noah Harris run for 194 yards and DeCari Prater ran for 50. KJ Page and Pierce Yates had great games on the ground as well, as the o-line did a great job creating running lanes. “The kids are playing well right now and we are going to try and keep that going this week,” Coach Davion Williams said Tuesday as he spoke on the offense. Pierce Yates has thrown for 5 TDs in these playoffs and ran for a score as well. Jah’Noah Harris has 392 rushing yards and 4 TDs in the playoffs this year so far, as he has been running the ball extremely well. PJ Gulley and D’Wayne White each have 2 touchdowns, and Jaylen Johnson has 1 TD in the playoffs, as the Wolves continue to show a lot of balance on offense. “We’re at our best when we’re running the ball well and passing well. We don’t want to be our best at the beginning of the year, we want to continue to get better,” as Coach Williams spoke on the importance on being a balanced offense. The offensive line will look to continue to build off a great performance this past Friday. Special teams wise, kicker John Rabadan has been money on PATs this postseason, as he is 12/12. This Curley Wolves team is battle tested and are hungry for another opportunity to play in front of the Prescott faithful this Friday night. Kickoff is set for 7PM on Friday night.
