FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Former Omaha left-handed pitcher Grace Hornbuckle has transferred to Arkansas to join Head Coach Courtney Deifel and the Razorbacks.
As a sophomore in 2026, Hornbuckle appeared in 13 games while making seven starts. The Redding, Calif., native registered a 2.33 ERA and a 4-2 record in the circle in addition to posting a 7.19 strikeouts per seven innings. She opened the 2026 season by picking up a win in her first three starts. In her sophomore debut, Hornbuckle fanned four while allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks in 5.1 innings pitched during a 5-4 win over Iowa State on Feb. 6. She then followed with four innings of shutout ball that featured four strikeouts and just three hits allowed against Southern Utah on Feb. 13. Hornbuckle registered a career-high seven strikeouts while allowing two runs on six hits over four innings of work in her third win of the season against Farleigh Dickinson on Feb. 15. She earned her fourth win of the season against North Dakota State after striking out three and allowing two unearned runs on four hits in three innings pitched on March 22.
In 2025, Hornbuckle made 15 appearances and three starts, posting a 1-0 record in the circle while missing significant time due to injury during her freshman season. She struck out 37 batters in 30 innings of work and limited opposing hitters to a .193 batting average. Hornbuckle pitched a season-high five innings in which she struck out four batters and yielded just two runs on two hits and a walk to pick up the win in the circle during a 12-2 victory over inner-city rival Creighton on April 22, 2025. The Redding, Calif., product picked up four strikeouts in six of her eight appearances that featured two or more innings pitched.
Prior to her time at Omaha, Hornbuckle was a standout at University Preparatory School in Redding, Calif., where she earned All-League and MVP honors. According to MaxPreps, Hornbuckle went 20-2 in the circle as a senior while registering a 0.56 ERA with 253 strikeouts while only allowing 16 walks in 138.1 innings pitched. In 2023, the left-hander posted a 1.41 ERA and 10-3 record while fanning 149 batters across 119.1 innings of work. As a freshman, Hornbuckle, pitched 62.2 innings with 115 strikeouts while going 7-3 with a 1.90 ERA.
Hornbuckle is the fifth transfer to join the Razorbacks in the 2026 cycle, alongside UCF utility player Kendall Yarnell, Boston transfer outfielder Kylie Doherty, Nevada transfer infielder Katie Wetteland and Notre Dame transfer infielder Ava Zachary.
Arkansas is coming off a historic 47-13 campaign, which featured the Razorbacks’ first trip to the Women’s College World Series in program history. The 2026 Arkansas squad’s 47 victories were the second-most in program history, while the Razorbacks’ 26 run-rule wins were a program record. At Bogle Park, Arkansas posted a 29-3 record, which marked the second-most wins and second-best winning percentage since the stadium opened in 2009, trailing only 31 wins in 2022 and a .931 winning percentage during a 27-2 campaign in 2018.
