Razorbacks Sign Six Transfers on Day Two of Portal

FAYETTEVILLE -- The second day of the transfer portal produced some results for new Arkansas Coach Ryan Silverfield.

It had a special team's feel to it with the Razorbacks signing Tennessee's starting kicker Max Gilbert, 6-0, 200; Georgia State kicker and kickoff specialist Braeden McAlister, 5-11,185; California State Sacramento long snapper Adam Johnston, 6-0, 215; Memphis offensive guard Malachi Breland, 6-5, 340; Cincinnati safety Christian Harrison, 6-1, 180; and those five with Coffeyville (Kan.) Community College defensive tackle Antonio Sandel-Bascomb, 6-3, 305, who had committed earlier.

With the news of Arkansas signing two kickers, Scott Starzyk, who announced last week he was returning to Arkansas, entered the transfer portal. Starzyk was a true freshman who handled Arkansas' place kicking duties the past two seasons.

Gilbert was perfect on 64 point after touchdowns and 14 of 19 on field goals with a long of 53 this past season. He was the starting kicker for two years with the Vols. He was the SEC Special Team's Player of the Week in Tennessee's win over Arkansas last season.

McAlister has a very strong leg. He only leg and had 43 kickoffs this season with 36 touchbacks. In three years McAlister has had 135 kickoffs with 97 resulting in touchbacks. He only made two field goals in seven tries, but they were from 60 against Marshall and 52 versus Vanderbilt.'

Breland is considered one of the top offensive guards in the transfer portal. He played for Silverfield and Jeff Myers at Memphis. He was one of four Memphis players visiting the Hogs Saturday and Sunday, The others were quarterback AJ Hill, 6-4, 215; running back Sutton Smith, 5-9, 185; and wide receiver Jamari Hawkins, 5-11, 178.

Harrison is the son of Rodney Harrison. He started his career at Tennessee before heading to Cincinnati for the 2025 season. He had 66 tackles, 40 solo, seven pass breakups and an interception. According to Pro Football Focus, Harrison had defended 577 passes in college and allowed just one touchdown.

Sandel-Bascomb had 29 tackles, 10 solo, eight tackles for loss and 2.5 sacks this past season.
