Razorbacks Swept by Bulldogs in Road Trip Finale
ATHENS, Ga. – In the final match of five straight on the road for the No. 8 Razorbacks, Arkansas was swept for just the second time this season as the Georgia Bulldogs emerged victorious on their home court.

The Hogs had previously only fallen in straight sets to then-No. 1 Wisconsin on Aug. 30, and hadn’t been swept by an SEC opponent since Oct. 29, 2022 at No. 14 Florida.

Graduate outside hitter Jill Gillen led Arkansas with 16 kills and 10 digs for a double-double, her 13th of the season. Maggie Cartwright led Arkansas hitters in efficiency on the night with .368 and nine kills.

Set 1

Georgia got the lead early in the first set and Arkansas never stopped playing catch-up from there. The Bulldogs limited the Hogs to no more than two points at a time midway through, and once Arkansas managed to string together a three-point streak, the deficit was still three at 16-13. The home team pushed the advantage back to five, and the Hogs huddled. Arkansas scored six of the next eight and came within two. Georgia called time and the Razorbacks cut the deficit to just one point, but the Bulldogs locked in for a 3-1 scoring run and took the opening set 25-22.

Set 2

The second set was more of the same for the two teams as Georgia held Arkansas to one point per rotation, while the Bulldogs rattled off six straight for a 14-5 lead. The Razorbacks began to settle in and trimmed the gap to four points, but Georgia answered with four of its own and made it 22-14. The Hogs threatened and tacked on five more, but a kill and an ace by the Bulldogs secured the middle frame 25-19 for them and put them up two sets to none.

Set 3

The third set was the closest of the night as there were four early ties and Arkansas got its first lead off two Georgia errors at 9-7. It didn’t last long, though, and the teams continued to go back-and-forth and tied the score four more times shortly after. The Hogs again went up by two at 14-12, which sent the Bulldogs to a timeout. Arkansas comfortably held on to the lead until a three-point run by Georgia tied it at 17-all. The Dogs regained the lead at 19-18 and never surrendered it from there. Arkansas spoiled match point once, but a Bulldog kill finished it 25-22 and put a stamp on the sweep.

Arkansas finally returns home for a Sunday afternoon match against Mississippi State on Nov. 5. First serve is set for 3 p.m. and the contest will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
