FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – As the No. 16 Gymbacks gear up for postseason, two of their rookies, Joscelyn Roberson and Ja’Leigh Lang, have earned All-SEC honors for their stellar freshman campaigns.

With a shift in format to the SEC Championships this season, conference honors have been modified to reflect regular season performance. The All-SEC Team is made up of the student-athletes with the top eight NQS scores including ties on each event and all-around, and the All-SEC Freshman Teem is comprised of the freshmen student-athletes with the top four NQS scores including ties on each event and all-around.

Arkansas’ freshman phenom Roberson has been great in all areas, but particularly on beam, where she holds a 9.915 NQS and is currently ranked eighth overall in the conference and second among freshmen. This gets her a spot on both the All-SEC and All-SEC Freshman lists for the event.

Roberson also racked up All-SEC Freshman honors on vault (9.865), floor (9.925), and all-around (39.450), in which she ranks in the top three among conference freshmen, including a tie for first on floor. She has 16 total scores of 9.9+ on the season, nearly 40 percent of all her routines, and has collected seven event titles across three apparatuses.

On March 7 at Kentucky, Roberson broke the Arkansas freshman all-around record with a score of 39.525, which she matched just a week later in the team’s regular season finale against Mizzou. So far she has competed all-around nine times for the Gymbacks and has won the all-around competition in five of those showings.

Freshman Ja’Leigh Lang made her collegiate debut for the Gymbacks in their second week of competition and has been rock solid ever since. A key piece of the early part of Arkansas’ vault lineup, she’s never scored less than a 9.800 and has notched her career high mark of 9.900 two times.

Heading into regional competition she holds a 9.865 NQS on vault, tied with Roberson for best on the team, third among SEC freshmen and in the top 25 of the entire conference.

Up Next

The 16-seeded Gymbacks head east to University Park, Pa, next week for regionals. Arkansas takes on No. 1 LSU, Michigan, and the winner of a play-in between Maryland and West Virginia on Thursday, April 3 at 6 p.m. in the semifinal. The top two teams from that contest along with the first semifinal of the day (No. 8 Michigan State, No. 9 Kentucky, Ohio State, Penn State) will earn spots in the regional final on Saturday, April 5 at 5 p.m. From there, the top two teams advance to the NCAA Gymnastics Championships in Fort Worth April 17-19. All sessions of regional competition will be streamed live on ESPN+.
