Firefighters from several agencies responded Wednesday to a fire that burned around 40 acres of land on the Hempstead/Nevada County Line.

At around 3 p.m., Hope Central Dispatch was contacted over the radio by Nevada County firefighters requesting assistance with a fire that spread from a fire someone had burning in their yard to the neighboring forest.

DeAnn Fire Department was dispatched to assist working the wildfire near Highway 332 and County Road 253. Deann, along with Nevada County Rescue and Fair Hill Fire Department did what they could to contain the fire until the Arkansas Forestry could get on scene with their bulldozer to cut a fire break and cut off the fire’s fuel.

No homes or structures were reported damaged in the fire. An estimated 40-50 acres was burned before the fire was contained.
