Sanders Orders Flags to Half-Staff on June 30, 2023

WHEREAS:  Robin French Wynne, born February 15, 1953, was an Arkansas Supreme Court Justice. He was deeply loved by his family, friends, and colleagues; he died June 22, 2023. He was a beloved jurist and servant of the people; and

WHEREAS:  Before entering a career in public service, Wynne received his Bachelor of Arts from Harvard University, his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arkansas, and attended Perkins School of Theology in Dallas, building the educational foundation for a lifelong devotion to his Christian faith and the law; and 

WHEREAS:  Wynne was elected to the Arkansas House of Representatives representing Dallas, Cleveland, and Lincoln counties. He then served as a city attorney and deputy prosecuting attorney, a Dallas County District Judge, and an Arkansas Court of Appeals Judge; and

WHEREAS:  Wynne’s career in the legislature and in the lower courts was distinguished for its dedication to enforcing the law and serving the people of Arkansas. He earned the respect and admiration of the Arkansans whom he served through his work for decades; and

WHEREAS:  Robin Wynne was elected to an 8-year term on the Arkansas Supreme Court in 2014 and began a career in the Natural State’s highest court that was marked by his fidelity to the state Constitution and unending work on behalf of the people of Arkansas. Wynne was elected to a second 8-year term just last year and continued to fulfill his duties until his passing; and

WHEREAS:  Justice Robin Wynne lived a life of deep convictions and never-ending energy, building on his Arkansas roots, a strong foundation of faith, and a sharp intellect to serve our state. It is fitting and right for Arkansas to honor him for his nearly decade of service to the highest court in Arkansas;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS, Governor of the State of Arkansas, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Arkansas, in tribute to the memory of Robin French Wynne and as an expression of public sorrow, do hereby direct that the United States flag and the state flag of Arkansas be flown at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on June 30, 2023.

IN TESTIMONY WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the State of Arkansas to be affixed this 27th day of June, in the year of our Lord 2023.
