Sanders Proclaims Thursday as President Jimmy Carter Day in Arkansas
TO ALL TO WHOM THESE PRESENTS COME - GREETINGS: WHEREAS: James “Jimmy” Earl Carter Jr., the 39th President of the United States, was born on October 1, 1924, in Plains, Georgia to Earl and Lillian Carter; WHEREAS: Carter went on to study at Georgia Southwestern College and the Georgia Institute of Technology. In 1946, he earned a B.S. degree from the United States Naval Academy and married his wife, Rosalynn Smith; WHEREAS: Carter concluded his Naval career in 1953 and took over his family’s peanut farm in Plains, Georgia. He kicked off his career in politics by winning a Georgia Senate seat and then serving as the 76th Governor of Georgia, championing racially inclusive policies in a state that had previously been defined by Jim Crow divisions; WHEREAS: Carter was elected President of the United States in 1976 and during his term, worked to solve international conflicts abroad and alleviate economic distress at home; WHEREAS: After leaving office, President Carter helped define the modern American post-presidency by putting his faith front and center and helping people around the world through his volunteer work alongside his wife; WHEREAS: President Carter passed away on December 29th, 2024, in Plains, Georgia at the age of 100—the longest-lived president in U.S. history. President Joe Biden ordered flags at half-staff for a period of 30 days and proclaimed January 9th, 2025 as a National Day of Mourning; and WHEREAS: On this National Day of Mourning, we must remember President Carter’s commitment to our country and honor his life. NOW, THEREFORE, I, SARAH HUCKABEE SANDERS , Governor of the State of Arkansas, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the laws of the State of Arkansas, do hereby proclaim January 9, 2025, on the day of President Jimmy Carter’s State Funeral in Washington, D.C., in memory of his life, as  

"PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER DAY IN ARKANSAS"
