FAYETTEVILLE - Honored Monday as SEC Co-Player of the Week, Arkansas freshman phenom second baseman Robert Moore Tuesday was named Perfect Game National Player of the Week Tuesday for his performances encompassing the Razorbacks’ 4-game sweep of Gonzaga  last Thursday through Sunday at Baum-Walker Stadium.

During Arkansas’ 7-5,  9-3, 5-0 and 9-5 victories over the Zags of the West Coast Conference, Moore batted .667 going 8 for 12  with nine RBI.  Moore’s hits included a home run and a double and he drew four walks, stole two bases and scored four runs.

Also Moore sparkled afield. Not only errorless, Moore turned two doubleplays and earned No. 9 mention of ESPN SportsCenter’s Top Ten plays for a glove flip forceout at second base.

Gonzaga Coach Mark Machtolf was especially impressed given Moore, a  Leawood, Kan. native and son of Kansas City Royals general manager Dayton Moore, is just 17 years and a December high school graduate immediately starting and starring for Arkansas.

“He plays with a ton of energy and he is going to be outstanding,” Machtolf said. “We were really impressed with him. I think he plays beyond his years.”

Moore and Coach Dave Van Horn’s 7-0 Razorbacks play away from home for this time this season meeting Big 12 powers, Oklahoma, Texas and Baylor Friday through Sunday among the SEC vs. Big 12 matchups at the Shriners  Hospitals for Children College Classic at the Houston Astros’ Minute Maid Park.
