“We got our results back from our federal audit that was on our the last of the ARPA [American Rescue and Recovery Act] money that we had,” Smith said. “They found no findings. So we got a clean audit. So we wanted to let y'all know.”
Next, Bonnie Raff of the local Daughters of American Revolution chapter, spoke on the proclamation of Family Literacy Week. Dressed in her Cat in the Hat costume, she spoke of the contribution to children’s literacy of Dr. Seuss, otherwise known as Theodore Geisel, author of over 60 books that continue to captivate youngsters and embark them on lives of reading.
JP Steve Atchley announced there will be a veterans parade 5:30 p.m. November 10th in Hope, and then a Veterans Day observance in the 1939 Courthouse building’s front lawn at 11:00 a.m. Afterward the Hope Lions Club will serve a catfish lunch, free to veterans and their spouses, and $15 to all others.
The meeting that began at 4:30 p.m. adjourned at about 4:40. Afterward, some justices of the peace and attendees lingered in the large courtroom in the Hempstead County Courthouse to share their memories of former Hope Mayor Floyd Young, Jr., who passed away October 19th.
