Silverfield Details Vision for Razorbacks’ Bigger, Deeper D-Line
By Otis Kirk

FAYETTEVILLE -- Ryan Silverfield has now seen his team practice twice with 13 remaining this spring.

With a new coaching staff comes new terms for positions. On the defensive line, Silverfield has Quincy Rhodes Jr. returning and a lot of young players who didn't play last season or newcomers. Silverfield had some things in mind when he went to recruit for the defensive line.

"I think we've that was something we said coming in even though in regards to what front we're playing is we need to get a little bit bigger body types," Silverfield said. "Now we don't have a ton of the you know 330 plus guys right, there's a lot of SEC programs and big 10 programs that have a bunch of five guys at 330 plus.

"We got plenty of guys in that 290 to 310 mark, but we want them to be able to be athletic and use our hands and that was the one thing with the D line yesterday I was pleased with this one. We got to see a lot of depth and some of those guys are guys that hadn't played a ton but the ability that we have high expectations for right maybe he didn't play at the previous school or maybe he didn't play as much last year but we see them getting a role.

"Does that role mean 10 plays, 30 plays? That's to be determined as we go along, but I I felt comfortable with the way they use their hands yesterday and the depth we have initially."

On the outside, Silverfield has a trio he is looking add to add pass rushing and speed to the line.

"Yes, sir, yeah, that kind of that stand up, outside backer type, where we got Steven Soles and [Jamonta] Waller and the guys like that, that's kind of the Charlie Collins, that type of spot where they can put their hand in the ground and be a D-end, but we'll call that the Jack," Silverfield said.

From the portal, Silverfield and his staff signed Oregon's Xadavian Sims, 6-3, 300; USC's Carlon Jones, 6-2, 321; Virginia's Hunter Osborne, 6-4, 301; Ohio State's Trajen Odom, 6-3, 291; Waller, 6-0, 239; and Soles, 6-2, 235.

The Razorbacks also return David Oke, 6-2, 314, and others who were highly recruited, but either redshirted in 2025 or saw limited action. They also signed Cross County's Danny Beale III, 6-5, 348, and Little Rock Central's Anthony Kennedy Jr., 6-3, 335, both 4-star recruits.

The Razorbacks will practice Thursday at 4:15 before departing for spring break.
