Sixth Street Project enters final stage with city finishing resurfacing
Today, personnel and equipment from the City of Hope's Street Department could be seen putting down surface asphalt on the stretch of West Sixth Street that runs from the railroad track crossing to Spring Hill Road.

This is the final stage of a project then city manager Catherine Cook submitted a resolution for 11 years ago. The slow progress of the project was the source of some frustration for Hope citizens as well as members of the Hope City Board. It has been over two years since bids were opened for the project.

In recent months, the city entered into an agreement with the state Arkansas Department of Transportation and the contractor, Belt Construction, to use the city's Street Department staff and equipment to complete the surfacing and striping for a potential overall cost savings and faster completion of the project.

The results of the project should be a smoother, wider road with better drainage and bicycle paths on both sides.
