The 5-2 overall and 3-1 conference Spring Hill Bears took out their frustrations tonight after a multi-overtime loss last week on the road at Mountain Pine. The Bears won 46-12 against the Marvell-Elaine Mustangs, a team that overcame a blown-out tire on their bus trip over to start the game at 7:45 p.m. only to have the game end at about 9:00 p.m. due to the mercy rule.

Spring Hill used a nearly unstoppable running attack and several Mustang turnovers, including an interception taken in for a touchdown to put the game beyond reach by two minutes left in the first quarter.

From there, the mercy rule kicked in, and the quarters rapidly went by with Spring Hill sticking to its running game and the Mustangs scoring twice thanks to a long kickoff return and pass completion but missing its conversion attempts to top out at 12 points for the evening.

Coach Greg Smith, asked what he saw from his team tonight said, “We came out ready to go. We came out ready to play, went down, marched straight down and didn't punt all night and just kind of kept going, kept it physical and just played our brand of football early.”

Next week, the now 6-2 and 4-1 Bears will host the 6-0, 4-0 Strong Bulldogs, which got a forfeit victory from Hermitage this week.
