Spring Hill romps 34-6 over Parkers Chapel, looks to tough game against Augusta Friday night

Spring Hill took on the challenge of beating the same team twice in two weeks and came out better than they did in the first matchup, winning 34-6 over Parkers Chapel (0-2) on the road Friday night.

In that game, the Bears (3-0) relied on a series of long running plays to put up big yards and score often, piling up 258 rushing yards. Junior TJ Tipton went for 80 yards on ten carries for one touchdown and senior Teyton Barton totaled 77 yards, scoring three touchdowns.

Spring Hill Coach Greg Smith was glad to see his team excel on the ground. “The focus of the running game is the progression of our offense. We need to be able to run the ball, and we must continue to progress in that phase,” he said today.

Junior quarterback Levin McGuire was perfect, completing all five of his passes for 136 yards. Senior Cade Watson caught for 51 yards to go with his 50 yards rushing.

Smith said he could see the team’s identity emerging from its three-game winning streak and credits work the team put in before the season began. “We are a blue collar team and the work the team has put into the offseason and summer is showing now up on the gamefield.”

Meanwhile, on defense, senior Jayce Moore seemed to be everywhere, with five tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles (one recovered).

Spring Hill plays the Augusta Red Devils next. For Smith the team offers a chance to measure up against a team with size on its lines and speed among its skills players.

Kickoff against the Augusta Red Devils takes place Friday September 16 on the Spring Hill field at 6:00 p.m. Senior night festivities for Spring Hill start at 5:30 p.m.

Correction: Previously, this story had the Spring Hill v. Augusta game kicking off at 7:00 p.m. but due to the cancellation by Augusta of the junior varsity game, the varsity game will start one hour sooner.
