Spring Hill- Football is back in Bear Country and they welcome in a good Genoa Central team, whose program is on the rise, as both teams are making the jump back from 8-Man Football this season. “We’re ready to get going, the kids are excited and we are too,” Coach Greg Smith said about the wait almost being over for the season-opener.

The Dragons are coming into Spring Hill on Friday night returning 5 offensive starters, including QB Riley Harris. This Genoa team is a real hard-working group, but the Bears are ready for the challenge. These two teams played an epic 14-12 game last season in 8-Man, as many of the Spring Hill faithful remember Zane Minton scoring late to help lead Spring Hill to victory. This matchup on Friday night is a very intriguing one, as both teams have played close games in 8-man. Look for the same type of game come Friday night, as they both adjust to the 11-man game. The trenches will be a great back and forth match on Friday, as both teams really like the guys up-front.

I spoke with Tucker Vickers of the Bears this past week and he was very excited about the season kicking-off this week, “We’re ready to fly around and hit people.” The Bears are returning some key member from last season’s State Runner-up team. Also returning is QB1 Jaxon Smith, as he looks to continue to make huge leaps in his junior season. Smith stands at 6’2 and has a great arm and great knowledge for the game, so he should be a real exciting one to keep an eye on this season. Smith has weapons in the backfield and on the outside. Look for Gavin Smith, Karson Hamilton, and Reese Tarver to have big nights.

“The main thing is a lot of intensity on Friday night, we like hard-hitting and intensity on the defensive side of the ball,” Coach Loe said as he spoke on the defense earlier this week. Expect a lot of contact this Friday night, as the Bears want to get this season off to a great start. LB’s Mason Moore and Alex Arriaga are returning from last years’ team and bring a lot of experience to the field.

The Bears are all excited for the season to begin and they have had a great week at practice. This should be a real competitive game between the Bears and Dragons. In a rematch of last seasons 14-12 thriller, look for both teams to come out hungry in search for a 1-0 starT.

Kickoff is set for 7PM on Friday Night in Spring Hill.
