While citizens may know them as the friendly faces who handle utility payments, the responsibilities of the Prescott administrative team extend far beyond the front counter. They are the first point of contact for nearly every piece of city business. Some may think the members of this team just take payments, but their duties extend far beyond that. They field the calls for every department, directing the needs of the community to the right people. Whether a resident has a question about a water leak, a power outage, loose animals, or limb pick-up, this staff is the starting point for a solution. They handle everything from plumbing and electrical licenses to water tap fees, serving as a comprehensive resource for the public.
This team provides the essential backbone of support for the day-to-day activities of the city. Under the leadership of Mayor Terry C. Oliver, who serves as the CEO of the city, they help manage the flow of information and operations for around 40 employees spread among numerous departments, including Electric, Water, Police, Fire, Sanitation, and Streets. Their administrative work is critical in supporting the mayor's broader responsibilities, which includes managing Kizer Field Airport, overseeing the Youth Center and working with the Economic Development Office and Chamber of Commerce to promote Prescott.
The positive and efficient atmosphere in the city office is a testament to both the team's camaraderie and its leadership. The staff considers themselves "the best team around," a group that works together seamlessly to serve the public. This dynamic is fostered by Mayor Oliver's leadership philosophy. He believes in finding the right staffers and letting them thrive: “The key to effective leadership is to find good people and then get out of their way," Mayor Terry Oliver said. "Find people who want to get involved, show some confidence in them, and let them do their thing.” The feeling is mutual, as his staff describes him as "a good guy" and "a really great boss" who helps countless people behind the scenes.
The work of the City of Prescott’s administrative staff is indispensable. They are the organizers, the problem-solvers, and the calm voices on the other end of the line. Their diligence and their wide-ranging knowledge are vital for ensuring that residents receive the maximum benefits and services from their city government.
