Taleyah Jones Leads Arkansas in Win over Southeastern Louisiana

FAYETTEVILLE - Arkansas senior guard Taleyah Jones led the Razorbacks (4-0) with 21 points in their 68-60 victory over Southeastern Louisiana (1-2) on Thursday night in Bud Walton Arena.

The Hogs struggled offensively in the first half and shot 22.3% (7-30) from the field with a 25-18 lead at halftime.

The Razorbacks improved with 43 second-half points and led by as many as 16 points midway through the fourth quarter.

First Quarter – 11-9

  • Southeastern controlled the tip but did not score on its first possession.
  • Maria Anais Rodriguez scored the first points of the game, a layup, at the 8:38 mark.
  • The Hogs went on a nearly three-minute scoring drought midway through the quarter, but it was ended on a layup by Harmonie Ware.
  • Arkansas committed four turnovers in the first quarter but Bonnie Deas picked up a steal at the end of the period.
  • The Razorbacks shot just 28.6% from the field (4-14) in the first 10 minutes

Second Quarter – 25-21

  • Missed layups plagued Arkansas in the second, and it was 0-13 from the field at the media timeout.
  • The Lions took their first lead of the game on a banked-in three from Mari Dangerfield.
  • Ware made the Hogs’ first field goal at the 4:34 mark to cut SLU’s lead to three
  • The Razorbacks grabbed their first lead since the quarter started on a three from Cristina Sanchez. Sanchez had 7 of Arkansas’ 11 points in the second quarter up to this point.
  • Arkansas ended the half on a 6-0 run with threes from Sanchez and Emily Robinson to take a 25-21 lead into the break.

Third Quarter – 51-39

  • SLU opened the second half with a three-pointer from Aliyah Collins
  • Taleyah Jones answered with a layup and a three on back-to-back possessions
  • After Collins’ basket, the Hogs went on a 9-0 run to take a 36-26 lead at the 6:59 mark
  • Jones scored 12 of her 21 points in the third.
  • Ashlynn Chlarson was fouled and missed both free throws, but a put-back put the Hogs up 12 at the end of the third.

Fourth Quarter – 68-60

  • Deas scored her first and only points of the game with a pair of free throws at the 3:39 mark. She fouled out.
  • Arkansas led by 16 points at the 7:28 mark but Southeastern ended the game on an 8-0 run and cut the Razorbacks’ lead to single digits.
  • Jones scored 20+ points for the second time in four games this season.
  • Emily Robinson has scored in double figures in each of her first four games as a Razorback. She had the second-most for Arkansas with 12 points.

Up Next

The Hogs will travel to Texas Tech (4-0) on Sunday for their first road game of the season. The Lady Raiders beat SMU, who Arkansas will face in December, 91-60 on Thursday night.
