The fair's rides weren't yet open Tuesday at noon, but they will be this evening at 5:00 p.m. to start Family Night.

The 78th Annual Southwest Arkansas District Fair has already started with a talent show held at 11:00 a.m. and displays of plants and flower-arrangements already on view at the Coliseum. But the traditional kickoff has always been the parade, whose 80 entrants will be on show along a route that starts rolling from the intersection of Sixth Street and South Elm at 6:00 p.m. this evening and will be streamed from the SWARK.Today website.

Then, at 7:30 p.m., again in the Coliseum, a pageant will take place to pick three winners for the Little Miss, Junior Miss and Miss categories. Twenty entries have signed up for tonight's event.

The culminating events of the fair will take place in the Coliseum's rodeo arena starting Thursday night with Breakaway Roping and then continuing to Friday and Saturday nights with Bullriding Nationals courtesy of Roughstock Productions. These events start at 7:00 p.m., but you may want to arrive at 6:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday for music to be performed in front of the Coliseum, on Saturday night by a Mariachi Band.
