The babies steal the show at Community Coffee hosted by Granny's Babies Child Care Center
The morning was filled with spooktacular decor and children’s laughter, a perfectly cheerful combination for this time of year, when Granny’s Babies Child Care Center hosted a Chamber Community Coffee at its new Prescott location. The center already held a charm all on its own due to the fun playground-style vibe of the classrooms and the sweet smiles of happy kiddos, but the lively Halloween decorations added to the buoyant energy of the event. Coffee patrons were treated to a considerable spread of treats and refreshments, as well as a tour of the facility, and the babies were just too cute so most of the visitors did not pass up this tour. This allowed for some pretty adorable photo ops with the cheerful tiny humans.

Granny’s Babies proprietor, Delois Muldrew, said she opened this new Prescott location in January of this year; the business itself was established in 2016 with her first location in Hope.  Her first Prescott location was opened in 2019, but that building was sold last year, so Muldrew then obtained this building, formerly part of the middle school, from Prescott School District. “Superintendent Poole blessed me with this building,” she said

Muldrew, who is retired from DHS after 32 years, shared with guests her motivation for beginning the child care center, in addition to what she has to offer local parents and children. “I saw the need for childcare,” she said. “In childcare, there’s so much going on, things like abuse, and I thought to myself ‘I need to do something.’ So I decided I wanted to open up a daycare center. I feed them and love them, my rates are reasonable, and I do accept the vouchers.” Muldrew then described a few details of the building renovation and expressed appreciation for her husband, Derek, who did a great deal of work to prepare the new location. “God blessed me with a good husband,” she said.

Muldrew introduced the site supervisor, Mrs. Polk, and then concluded her thoughts to guests by describing the core values of the center. “We teach, we don’t just babysit. We have a curriculum,” Muldrew said. “We serve good food and we take care of our babies.”

While guests from all around the community were in attendance, a plethora of royalty was on the scene as well. Eight Nevada County Queens participated in the Community Coffee, which is fitting since the theme of the day seemed to revolve around happy youth. They are as follows: Miss Nevada County Melilina McRoy,  Junior Miss Nevada County R'Moni Jamerson, Miss Preteen Nevada County Claire Laughard, Young Miss Nevada County Mari Wren, Little Miss Nevada County Aliza Thompson, Petite Miss Nevada County Kalli Lewis, Baby Miss Nevada County Zoie Hicks, and Infant Miss Nevada County Janae Burton.

And the most important guest of all, according to the kids that is, was the Prescott Fire Department. The crew showed up to let the youth see the big fire trucks, and the children were ecstatic about getting an up close and personal look inside the big red fire engines (and the adults couldn’t resist even more adorable photo ops). Not a single child was without a smile after that show and tell, making for a happy conclusion to the morning’s event.

The new Granny’s Babies location in Prescott is located at 516 Garland Street. Muldrew said there are still spots open for children and that applications are still being accepted for employment. To find out more information about Granny’s Babies Child Care Center, visit the Facebook page HERE
