The Farm Bureau Women's Committee hosts Community Coffee

The Hope Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce community coffee this morning was hosted The Farm Bureau Women's Committee at Farm Bureau's new location. Many locals gathered to visit as they snacked on a delicious spread consisting of foods sweet and savory; sandwiches, cheese, crackers, fruit, veggies, the cutest cookies and so much more. Other refreshments included coffee with sweet honey sticks, a variety of juices and fruit infused water.

The Farm Bureau Women's Committee has a mission to teach children in our area about agriculture. They have many incredible projects that they carry out each year. They hold a safety day, a bee project, literacy reading in the classroom, food banks, Thanksgiving baskets, drink tabs for ACH, Fire Department blankets and so many more.

"Our mission with the coffee is to give back to the community, we like to gather, invite them in and show them some of the projects that we do. Our goal is to go into the schools and teach the kids about agriculture; where their food comes from and how to grow things. We have a bee project, a book barn with agriculture books in it, we have a germination station that we take to the schools to plant sunflowers with the kids, petting zoos, and we have a denim dropbox, the denim is repurposed and shredded for Habitat for Humanity and used for their insulation. All things related to agriculture, we try to make it happen," President of The Farm Bureau Women's Committee, Mindy Lockhart said.

The committee had several pieces of their projects on display, their books of the year, honey sealed in the neatest little honey sticks and the denim dropbox can always be found at Farm Bureau to collect used denim. Other items were listed so citizens could see all the wonderful projects they complete each year.

Executive Director of the Hope Hempstead County Chamber of Commerce, Christy Burns was present and said, "We are blessed to have the women in this organization to go to our schools and teach our children about agriculture. They have the neatest projects and I am just really proud to have them in our community. They are such a good group of ladies."
