The Picket Fence Now Offering Lunch

The Picket Fence in downtown Hope has expanded their small business, adding a sandwich shop to the list of great services they already offer. They have opened the store front with limited shopping area -while Covid-19 is still an issue, for the gift items they carry inside.

Lunch will be available Monday-Friday 11 am-1 pm. What's on the menu? Tasty sandwiches, salads, quesadillas, wraps, all with your choice of a side and a specific keto menu will be coming out soon for sugar free and diabetic patrons. They will be adding more items to the menu as the weather cools off, such as, soups and paninis, the warmer foods. Right now they are just preparing summer foods, with cooler, lighter choices.

Their decadent cash and carry cakes will still be prepared daily; crumble cups, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, as well as, pie by the slice. "We're going to have a lot more baked items that you can just carry out, all day long," owner at The Picket Fence, Elena Smillie said.

They have been working hard remodeling the past few months, putting in two seven foot counters so people can social distance when they come in to check out. They've rearranged the shopping area, making room for their new venture. Now that they are all set to go, the front of the store is open, although curbside is available if people prefer not to come in. "We would like for our customers to come in with a mask but if they choose not to that's okay, we are masked so we have it covered on our end." Smillie said about COVID-19 hanging around.

"We are still a full service florist/flower shop. We do fresh, artificial, plants, tuxedos, all of our staples stayed the same, it's just the addition of the sandwich shop," Smillie said. They will be available for catering, events and weddings, along with their infamous specialty cakes and orders.

"We are very thankful through the last four months with what has happened across the country and across the world, that everyone has been so kind and shopping local. I feel like we are seeing a lot more people shopping local since COVID-19 began. We went through Mother's Day with our front door closed, had the best Mother's Day we've ever had so I feel like local people are shopping local and as a small business owner that's huge for all of us. The downtown is growing, the businesses in Hope are growing, I can just see in the six years that we've been here, the expansion and what's happening, almost all the buildings are full now so to be a part of that in our hometown, it's just amazing. We're just real excited about what the future holds for Hope and downtown," Smillie said about the expansion.

The Picket Fence is located in Historic Downtown Hope at 200 East 2nd Street. Store hours are Monday - Friday 10 am - 4 pm. Lunch is available 11 am -1 pm. To place an order call 870-722-5967.
