The Sound of Hope Marches in State Competition, Earns 1st Division
Little Rock- The 5A State Marching Competition took place Tuesday afternoon at War Memorial Stadium, with 19 schools competing for a state championship. The Sound of Hope had an excellent showing Tuesday as the band was awarded a first Division finish and placed sixth overall out of 19 bands, including finishing ahead of everyone in its region.

Band Director Chris Davis spoke on the performance after the competition, “We performed well. We had some mechanical issues, had to make a lot of adjustments, but we fought through and earned a superior division award, which was our goal.”

This group of students has worked extremely hard, dating back to last year and throughout the summer to get to this point. “They have shown great progress, and we are building and building,"  Band Director Woodrow Boyd said.

The band has shown a great deal of musicianship all year long. The color guard was excellent as always. The percussion had perhaps their best showing of the year today, and the woodwinds and brass were spot on per usual.

“We improved from last year and the growth is coming, we’re about to turn a lot of heads next year," Davis said after the award ceremony. This band has improved every year, as it continues to improve its ranking at the state competition, and next year they will look to do the same. Congratulations on a great season for The Sound of Hope.
