Fourteen restaurants and eateries will offer samples of their food until 8:00 p.m. for those who have bought tickets, which will be available at the event but will cost less if bought in advance at at Bob’s Antiques, Sew Fancy, Vintage Girls Boutique & More, and Elm Street Marketplace or from the Hope Downtown Network's website. Proceeds will go to the Hope Downtown Network to continue its efforts to improve the appearance of the downtown area of Hope.
“But our goal is to grow and to revitalize to the point that we’ll be Main Street Hope. So that is why we're doing this event,” Rebekah Moore, of the Downtown Network said to the City Board. Main Street organizations are at least partially funded by local governments. There are 20 such in the state.
Southwest Arkansas Arts Council Executive Director Jennifer Block explained that art will be displayed downtown. “It's going to showcase a lot of our local artists. We have collected lots of works from the artists that have done galleries in the past,” she said. There will be a paint-by-numbers mural set up in the Pocket Park which attendees can help paint.
How will The Taste of Hope work? Moore explained. “So you will check in and get a wrist band. And then you'll have a muffin tin that has 12 little muffin containers in it. That's what you will use to taste all the food. You'll have a serving from each vendor, each restaurant, but you can go back as many times as you want.” Tables will be available along East Second. Musicians will be playing.
During the event, Heather Clements Photography will be present to take photos of attendees next to Tim McMullan’s vintage cars or anywhere else nearby.
At the Hope Downtown Network headquarters on South Main, just south of Tailgaters, will be a Speakeasy serving completely legal Mocktails.
At 7:00 p.m. a style show will begin on a stage set up at East Second and South Main, then a live auction and a surprise appearance by someone Moore described as “someone who has loved hope Arkansas for a long, long time.”
Meanwhile, during all this, attendees who go to the area just in front of the Hempstead County Economic Development Corporation will be able to vote for one of three improvement projects that the Hope Downtown Network will pursue next.
