Some very proud third graders at Nevada Elementary and Prescott Elementary were full of excitement this morning as they received their prizes for winning the Arbor Day Coloring Contest. The contest, sponsored by the Economic Development Office (EDO), awarded the students $20, $15, and $10 Sonic gift cards for first, second, and third place, respectively.
All the kiddos expressed joy and pride upon learning they had won the contest and gladly lined up for a picture. Cardell Burnett from Prescott Elementary said, “I’m glad that I won, because my mom is going to be so proud.” Moms aren’t the only proud ones though. Nevada and Prescott school staff proudly looked on as the students received their prizes. In Prescott, a few City Council members attended the prize giveaway as well.
EDO representative Tara Carlton announced the student winners and handed out the prizes. When asked how she felt about being present when the kids discovered they won the coloring contest, Carlton responded by saying, “I feel very privileged. I enjoy it and it’s a good teaching tool so they learn about Arbor Day and how important trees are.”
