Mary Kay Johnson, Hope Evening Lions president said of who was responsible for the edibles and the display, “We all pitched in, and everybody brought something. Sheila [Key] does the decorations for us, and it's just a group effort.”
The Evening Lions has about 15 members and fulfils several purposes in the community. “We help with burnouts,” she said, referring to cases in which families lose their homes to fire or natural disaster. “We give out scholarships. We do a food bank the second Saturday of every month. We give out food commodities.”
For those who wish to join the Evening Lions, Johnson said “We meet the first and third Mondays at 6:00 p.m. at the Amigo Juan’s annex.” The club has a Facebook page so prospective members can get in touch and be contacted by a member who will show them how to join.
Served Wednesday morning was an assortment of breakfast-worthies, including donuts, crullers and cinnamon rolls, fruit plate, pimento cheese spirals, devilled eggs, smokies, cookies and punch.
