Tis’ the season of moderation

Cholesterol, what your liver produces to build cells and make vitamins, can be unhealthy in large amounts. And during the holiday season, as some people adopt poor diets, gain weight, ditch exercise and/or pick up on drinking and smoking, cholesterol can become a big problem.

Here are a few things you can do to keep your cholesterol down during the holidays and after:

  • Eat a low-salt diet with lots of fruits, vegetables and whole grains

  • Maintain a healthy weight

  • Exercise for 30 minutes most days of the week

  • Quit smoking and drink alcohol in moderation
