Train Day draws vendors of all ages

Five-year-old Landry Lester set up shop to sell his lemonade at Hope Train Day in downtown Hope.

Hope Train Day, hosted and funded by the Hope Tourism Commission, kicked off this morning with music, food, games, a car show, and much more. Among the biggest attractions of the day, however, are the various vendors who set up shop to sell their wares at Pavilion Park and around downtown Hope.

These vendors displayed a multitude of items, ranging from clothes and jewelry to candles and home decor; there was even a local honey stand spotted in the northeast corner of the Hub. Train Day attracted many local vendors, as well, like Bonnie and Sam Raff, who were there representing Hope Quilter's Guild in addition to selling their woodwork, quilts, and crafts. Hope Downtown Network was also on the scene, selling ice cream to interested guests.

Hope Train Day proved that it's not just a market for adult vendors though. Five-year-old Landry Lester set up his very own lemonade stand next to dad Anthony Rickard's smoker. Landry greeted guests with extra enthusiasm as he asked customers if they preferred ice or no ice in their lemonade. His dad said the initial plan was that Landry's sister, Oakley, was to be there, too, but at the time of this picture, Oakley was MIA. Maybe at the kids zone or on the cute mini train cruising around downtown? The promise of a bounce house didn't deter Landry though. He stuck it out all morning, and as this reporter neared his small shop of sweet refreshments, he uttered my favorite words of the day, "Would you like some lemonade?" He then produced a cup instantly with the best marketing tool to be seen at this event or any other: his sweet smile.
